Northwoods Nightcap is AFT’s high-energy late-night comedy and song showcase---sort of Prairie Home Companion without the prairie or the home. Presented on select Friday nights from 10 to 11 PM, the show features talented guest artists, comical commercials, and special appearances from AFT characters. You might catch Angelique from Belgians in Heaven telling Saint Peter jokes, or Ernie the Moocher (from Guys on Ice) giving away prizes. The Door County Advocate described it as “absolutely hilarious…soulful and…astounding.”
This summer’s guests include Eric Lewis and Tommy Burroughs (both winners of the Best String Player Award from the National Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences), Monica Heuser (winner of the prestigious Ivey Award in the Twin Cities), longtime AFT singer-songwriters Chris Irwin, Scott Wakefield and Claudia Russell, and other performers. Each night you’ll hear a Heritage Ensemble Song of the Week (reviving the stirring music of AFT’s predecessor troupe) and a song by Fred Alley (AFT’s brilliant co-founder), plus the Pickled Joke of the Week and other surprises. Mark your calendars for July 18 and August 15---then before you hit the sack, kick back and have a Northwoods Nightcap!

The event begins at 1:00 PM with a reading of the script and songs, followed by a reception with the authors and cast, at the home of Cyndy Stiehl in Ephraim. Don't miss your chance to be among the first to experience this exciting new work in progress!
There will be a full home-made buffet following the reading.

AFT Hosts Creative Kids Day
On July 18, kids will have a chance to look behind the scenes of a professional theater at American Folklore Theatre’s Creative Kids Day in Peninsula State Park. This annual “casting call for creative kids” provides an opportunity for children ages 5-16 to spend a few hours with AFT company members and volunteers. Participants will spend the day playing theater games, joining in on cast singalongs, and sneaking a rare peek inside the AFT dressing room.
Creative Kids Day will take place on and around the AFT stage in Peninsula State Park on July 18. The session runs from 1-3:30 p.m. Admission to the event is $20 per child, or a maximum of $50 for 3 siblings or more. To register or get more information, please call the AFT office at (920) 854-6117.
