Young Samuel Clemens leaves home in Hannibal to be a cub pilot on a Mississippi steamboat in 1858 and unexpectedly finds himself learning about life…and death…and love…and writing! All while navigating his way from boy to man and from Samuel Clemens to Mark Twain.

“When I find a well-drawn character in fiction or biography, I generally take a warm personal interest in him, for the reason that I have known him before—met him on the river.” — Mark Twain in his memoir, Life on the Mississippi

2010 marks the 175th anniversary of Twain's birth and the 100th anniversary of his death.
